Fort Bend County Libraries is bringing two free financial workshops to Missouri City in October, covering Medicare basics and identity theft prevention.

Ashley Holloway, a licensed insurance broker and registered nurse, will lead a Medicare 101 session on Friday, Oct. 9, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Meeting Room of the Missouri City Branch Library, 1530 Texas Parkway, according to Fort Bend County Libraries. The workshop is geared toward people approaching retirement or turning 65, though anyone interested in learning about the health insurance program is welcome.

Holloway plans to walk through the four parts of Medicare, what the program covers, common enrollment mistakes to avoid and how to choose the right plan.

Four days later, representatives from Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union will lead an Identity Theft Prevention workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Sienna Branch Library, 8411 Sienna Springs Blvd. The session will cover scams and methods thieves use to steal personal information, along with steps residents can take to keep their data secure.

Both workshops are free.

The two sessions are part of six financial literacy programs Fort Bend County Libraries is offering across its branches in October. The FINRA Investor Education Foundation's 2024 National Financial Capability Study found that while financial knowledge among U.S. adults has held steady since 2021, their ability to make ends meet and save for emergencies has declined.

Residents with questions about the Missouri City workshop can call the branch at 281-238-2100. A full schedule of library events is available at fortbendlibraries.gov/events.
