Missouri City and Stafford residents can order home-cooked meals from local chefs through Shef, an online platform that launched its weekly delivery service across the Greater Houston area Oct. 13.

The San Francisco-based company connects customers with vetted chefs who prepare and deliver fresh meals. Houston is Shef's 10th U.S. market, joining Dallas, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin and other cities, according to Community Impact, which first reported the launch.

Both Missouri City and Stafford appear on the company's list of served cities. Sugar Land, Pearland and Friendswood are also covered.

The platform lists 1,351 dishes spanning 60 cuisines. Customers enter their ZIP code, household size and meal preferences, then Shef recommends dishes from nearby chefs. Options include high-protein, vegetarian, gluten-free, GLP-1-friendly (meals suited for users of weight-loss medications such as Ozempic) and kid-approved categories, according to Community Impact.

Weekly subscriptions start at four meals per week and cost $35 for the first week, an introductory rate that will increase afterward. One-time orders are also available.

"Houston is a city that knows good food, but between long commutes and busy schedules, home-cooked meals are often the first thing to fall off the plate," Joey Grassia, Shef co-founder and CEO, said in an Oct. 13 news release.

Grassia co-founded the company with Alvin Salehi. The platform's roster includes James Beard Award winners and Michelin-trained talent, according to the release.

Chefs on the platform set their own menus, prices and schedules. Shef provides support with food safety certification, pricing guidance and marketing, the release said. The company reported it has raised more than $100 million in funding and serves more than 180,000 families nationwide.

Grassia said the service also gives chefs a way to build income without handling delivery logistics or customer service on their own.

Residents can browse available chefs and dishes at shef.com by entering their ZIP code.
