Three law enforcement agencies rushed to Jan Schiff Elementary School in Missouri City on Tuesday, Oct. 6, after a reported active shooter call that police say appears to have been a swatting hoax.

The Missouri City Police Department received the call at approximately 7:57 a.m. Officers from Missouri City police, Fort Bend ISD Police and the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office arrived at the school by approximately 8:02 a.m., five minutes after the initial report, KHOU 11 first reported.

The school, located at 7400 Discovery Lane, was placed on hold while officers searched the campus.

They found nothing.

Police said officers located no signs of an active threat or disturbance. The department said the call "appears to have been unfounded and may have been the result of a swatting incident." Swatting is the practice of making a false emergency call to trigger a large law enforcement response to a specific location.

The Missouri City Police Department said there is no active threat to Jan Schiff Elementary or the surrounding community. Police did not provide additional information about the origin of the call or say whether an investigation into the caller is underway.

No named spokesperson from any of the three responding agencies has issued a public statement about the incident.

Multi-agency response framework formalized in August

The multi-agency response followed a framework the Missouri City City Council formalized on Aug. 17. The council unanimously approved a mutual aid agreement with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office for school-incident response planning under Texas House Bill 33.

Missouri City Fire Chief Mario Partida told the council at that Aug. 17 meeting that the agreement formalized existing response plans and coordination for school incidents, with no additional cost or change to current procedures.

Fort Bend ISD Police completed Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) alongside other local agencies, according to a June 2025 post from the department.

Prior hoax calls in Fort Bend County

The incident at Jan Schiff Elementary is not the first hoax school-threat call in Fort Bend County. In November 2022, the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office responded to a hoax active shooter call at George Ranch High School, dispatching more than 40 officers, SWAT and air support, according to the agency's annual report. Investigators identified and charged all persons involved in that hoax.

Across the Houston region, the FBI Houston Field Office investigated 42 reported school threats during the 2025-26 school year, according to KPRC 2.

The Missouri City Police Department has not announced a follow-up update.
