Fort Bend ISD residents in Missouri City and Stafford can apply now for a seven-month program that takes participants inside the district's budget meetings, onto school campuses and all the way to the Texas Capitol.

The Board of Trustees Leadership Academy, established in 2017, is accepting applications through Friday, Sept. 4, at 4 p.m., the district announced Aug. 17, according to Community Impact. Tuition is $125.

What participants do

Academy members attend four evening learning sessions and a retreat over the program's seven months. The schedule also includes a road trip across FBISD campuses and a visit to the Texas Capitol in Austin.

Participants are required to sit in on at least one Board of Trustees agenda review meeting and one regular business meeting, giving them a firsthand look at how the board conducts district business.

Civic context

Three trustee seats — Positions 1, 4 and 5 — are on the Nov. 3 ballot, according to a board action taken Monday, July 27. The academy's application window closes two months before that election.

FBISD said the program's goal is to educate community members and stakeholders about the district's inner workings. The district earned an overall "B" rating from the Texas Education Agency in 2026, with its accountability score rising from 80 to 82.

Applications opened Monday, Aug. 17, and close Friday, Sept. 4, at 4 p.m. The $125 tuition covers all sessions, the retreat and the Capitol trip. Details are available at fortbendisd.gov.
