Fort Bend ISD's athletics department crammed three days of pre-season activity into a long weekend, combining coaching development, the volleyball season opener and college recruiting visits at Ridge Point High School in Missouri City.

The district hosted a Coaches Professional Development event that brought in UIL Assistant Athletic Director Virginia Flores on Saturday, Aug. 1, to address coaches from across the district. Flores, based in Austin, represents the governing body for all Texas public school athletics and academic competitions.

A day earlier, on Friday, July 31, speaker Willie Spears addressed FBISD coaches at the same event. FBISD Athletics said on X that Spears challenged, inspired and equipped coaches to lead with purpose, with a message focused on impact beyond wins and losses.

Volleyball tips off

The volleyball season launched simultaneously on Aug. 1, with FBISD Athletics wishing all district teams well as competition began. FBISD Assistant Athletic Director Ashley Grantham amplified the department's opening-day message on social media.

Ridge Point's volleyball program wasted no time building momentum. On Monday, Aug. 3, the program announced its 2026 roster, dubbed "Team 16," congratulating players who earned spots for the season.

College coaches visit Ridge Point

That same Monday, college coaches held recruiting meetings at Ridge Point, along with George Bush, Crawford and Hightower high schools. FBISD Athletics called it a "strong start to the school year" and tagged the visits with #MakeYourMark and #AVA.

The names of visiting college programs were not disclosed.

Specific match dates and UIL district schedules for FBISD volleyball teams, including Ridge Point, Elkins and Marshall, have not yet been released.
