Missouri City residents have five new reasons to shop and eat local after a wave of business openings across the city in August.
The newest arrivals include a homegrown comedy lounge, a 30,000-square-foot trampoline park, a Thailand-based sushi chain, a veterinary clinic and a frozen dessert shop, according to a Community Impact roundup published Aug. 16.
MoCity Comedy Lounge
Local comedian Eric Bowens, known as EricB, opened MoCity Comedy Lounge at 3760 Cartwright Rd. inside MoCity Sports Bar. The venue hosts comedy shows, karaoke and theme nights, with reservations available for private events.
Bowens announced on Instagram on Aug. 15 that the lounge's grand opening celebration will run Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30 through Sept. 1.
@ericb_bowens: "Missouri City, it's OFFICIAL! MoCity Comedy Lounge is OPEN, and we're kicking it off BIG with our GRAND OPENING LABOR DAY WEEKEND! Come experience good food, drinks, live entertainment, comedy, music & grown-folks vibes all weekend long!"

Big Air Missouri City
Big Air USA, an indoor adventure park franchisor, held its grand opening Aug. 1 with prizes for the first 100 guests in line, according to a company press release. The 30,000-square-foot facility features trampolines, dual slides, a dodgeball arena and a two-story obstacle course. A separate trampoline area and mini obstacle course serve younger children.
Isamu Sushi
The Thailand-based sushi chain opened its fifth international location at 4899 Highway 6, Ste. 108B, in Tang City Plaza. Isamu Sushi serves sushi, salads and tataki, and imports specialty seafood from Japan. The restaurant was still in its soft opening phase as of Aug. 10, according to its Instagram page.
Petfolk
The veterinary practice opened its fifth Greater Houston location in Missouri City, Community Impact reported Aug. 3. Petfolk offers primary care, urgent care, diagnostics, surgeries and dental care for pets.
Buzz Treats
The frozen dessert shop sells both alcoholic and non-alcoholic ice cream and gelato, along with pressed juices, smoothies, milkshakes and pet-friendly treats.
The five Missouri City openings were part of a broader 12-business list that also included seven Sugar Land arrivals. MoCity Comedy Lounge's Labor Day grand opening runs Aug. 30 through Sept. 1 at 3760 Cartwright Rd.
