Missouri City and Stafford families who missed the start of school can still grab a pre-K seat in Fort Bend ISD. The district is holding a Pre-K Round-Up and Document Day on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon at two locations: Mission Elementary and Progressive High School.

The 2026-27 school year started Aug. 11, but seats remain open at multiple campuses, including Dr. Lynn Armstrong, Lexington Creek, Lakeview, Meadows, Quail Valley, Townewest, Colony Bend, Barrington Place and Mission Elementary, according to the district's website. Several of those schools serve Missouri City neighborhoods.

Spots are assigned first-come, first-served once paperwork is submitted and qualification is confirmed.

Who qualifies

For tuition-free Pre-K4, a child must turn 4 by Sept. 1, 2026, and meet at least one Texas Education Agency criterion, which includes income level, language or parent employment with FBISD. Pre-K3 Head Start requires the child to turn 3 by Sept. 1, 2026, and the family must live within the district and meet income guidelines.

What to bring

Parents should arrive with a certified birth certificate or other proof of the child's identity, the original Social Security card or state-assigned ID number, a parent or guardian photo ID, proof of residency (a deed, lease or mortgage agreement plus a utility bill) and current immunization records, according to Community Impact.

Why it matters

Fort Bend ISD said on X in June that 87% of Pre-K4 students finished the 2025-26 year on track in early literacy and 94% were on track in math, both exceeding district goals.

Enrollment is not guaranteed at the event. Families must receive written confirmation from the school to secure a spot.
