Fort Bend ISD families who assumed their student would ride the bus this fall should double-check: the district has redrawn walk zone boundaries for the 2026-27 school year, and the deadline to register for bus transportation is Friday, Aug. 7.

The updated zones, announced Monday, Aug. 3 across the district's social media accounts, reflect changes in roadway improvements, traffic patterns and safety assessments, according to Fort Bend ISD's official post on Instagram. The district did not specify which neighborhoods or campuses saw the biggest shifts.

Walk zones determine bus eligibility. Under district policy, students living two or more miles from their assigned school qualify for transportation, according to Community Impact and the FBISD student/parent handbook. If a boundary change moves a student into the walk zone, that family loses bus service.

How to check your zone

Families can enter their home address into the FBISD Bus Route Locator at fortbendisd.gov/BusRouteLocator to see whether they fall inside or outside the walk zone. The district noted that bus routes are still being finalized and encouraged families to check back before the first day of school for the most accurate information.

Registration deadline looms

All bus transportation registrations must be completed by Friday, Aug. 7, the district said, to be eligible for service when school starts Tuesday, Aug. 11. The 2026-27 school year runs through Thursday, May 27, 2027.

Marshall High School in Missouri City amplified the bus route announcement on its own social media channels Tuesday, Aug. 4, pushing the information to families at the 1220 Buffalo Run campus. Ridge Point and Elkins high school families in the Missouri City area should also verify their status, as the walk zone update applies districtwide.
