Fort Bend ISD students will continue using the Stafford City Pool for after-school practice during the 2026-2027 school year if the Stafford City Council approves a renewed interlocal agreement at its Wednesday, Aug. 19 meeting.
The deal, listed on the consent agenda, would give at least three FBISD schools access to the pool at 3355 Constitution on weekdays from 2:30 to 4 p.m., August 2026 through May 2027. The rate: $5 per lane per hour.
Susan Ricks, the city's director of recreation, recommended approval in an Aug. 3 memo to the mayor and council, noting the terms match last year's arrangement. FBISD Athletics Director Katie Anselmo is the district's point of contact for the agreement.
The agenda packet does not name which schools will use the facility. FBISD operates Ridge Point, Elkins and Marshall high schools in the Missouri City-Stafford area, all of which field swim teams.
Because the item sits on the consent agenda, it is expected to pass without separate debate unless a council member pulls it for individual discussion. If approved, Mayor Ken Mathew will execute the agreement on behalf of the city.
The agreement also stipulates the pool will close for at least 30 days during the contract term for maintenance and repair. Those closure days may be intermittent or consecutive.
Pool repairs also on the table
Separately, the same meeting includes a discussion item on repairing the Stafford Pool in conjunction with the Stafford Civic Center, sponsored by Councilmember Wen Guerra. No details on the scope or cost of potential repairs appear in the agenda packet.
FBISD building its own aquatic facility
The renewed rental comes as Fort Bend ISD builds toward long-term independence from borrowed pool time. The district's Board of Trustees on June 15 approved a not-to-exceed $25.7 million construction contract with Satterfield & Pontikes Construction for a new aquatic practice facility under its bond program. A completion date has not been announced.
Until that facility opens, the Stafford City Pool remains a weekday training home for FBISD swimmers.
