Families at Thurgood Marshall High School, Missouri City Middle School, Christa McAuliffe Middle School and Willowridge High School won't need to buy backpacks or school supplies this fall.
Fort Bend ISD, led by Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith, announced July 31 that more than 17,750 students at the district's 25 Title I campuses will receive free school supply kits and backpacks for the 2026-27 school year. No signup is needed. Every student enrolled at a qualifying campus automatically gets supplies.
The district is distributing elementary kits and secondary kits tailored to middle and high school students, according to its Facebook page.
Which local schools qualify
Title I is a federal designation for schools with high percentages of students from low-income families. According to the Texas Education Agency's campus list, confirmed FBISD Title I campuses in the Missouri City area include:
- Missouri City Middle School — 84.47% low-income
- Willowridge High School — 81.69% low-income
- Thurgood Marshall High School — 73.49% low-income
- Christa McAuliffe Middle School
Those four are among the 25 campuses district-wide where students will receive kits. The full list of all 25 schools has not been independently confirmed; families can check whether their child's campus qualifies at fortbendisd.gov.
Distribution details still coming
The district said specific dates, times and pickup locations will be shared separately. As of Aug. 5, those details had not been posted publicly. Families should watch the district's website and social media accounts for updates.
The program arrives as FBISD opens the school year with seven fewer elementary campuses after a March 9 board vote to close schools, and with a $32.8 million budget shortfall, according to Community Impact. For families at the remaining Title I schools, the free kits eliminate one back-to-school expense.
What families need to know
The first day of instruction is Tuesday, Aug. 11. The district's Back-to-School Guide, posted July 16, covers enrollment, transportation, meals and key dates and is available on the district's website. Families still needing to register can find enrollment information there as well.
