Three Missouri City police officers jumped into a bayou on Friday, Aug. 7, to rescue a young boy they found in the water during a welfare check.

Officers Trevino, Guerra and Schuessler responded to the call involving the child, according to CW39 Houston. When they arrived, they saw the boy in the bayou and entered the water immediately. The three worked together and pulled him to safety.

The department, posting the video of the rescue on social media, has not identified the specific bayou or released details about the child's condition after the rescue.

Missouri City Police Chief Troy Finney praised the officers in a social media post, saying their quick thinking, teamwork and willingness to act in a critical moment represent what the community should expect from its police department. Finney said he is extremely proud of the three officers and their commitment to protecting the community.

FOX 26 Houston reported on the rescue Thursday, Aug. 20, noting the incident was captured on camera. CW39 also published video of the rescue on Friday, Aug. 21.

The footage shows the officers wading into the water and coordinating to reach the child, who was brought back to dry ground. No information has been released about how the boy ended up in the bayou or whether emergency medical services responded to the scene.

Welfare checks are initiated when someone calls police with concerns about another person's safety. In this case, the call led officers directly to a life-threatening situation.
