Missouri City's First Colony Trail Head will get a new playground and fitness equipment under a $245,000 contract the City Council approved Oct. 5.
The park at 5330 Crosslakes Blvd., near the intersection of Cross Lakes and Riverstone boulevards, serves families across the Sienna corridor. Its 10 outdoor exercise stations have reached the end of their usable life, according to council agenda documents.
Community Impact first reported the approval.
The contract with playground equipment company GameTime includes a $51,000 playground, new exercise machines such as a cardio walker, chest press, step-up station, body curl station and balance board, a new bench and picnic table, and overhead shade structures. The goal, per agenda documents, is to let parents stay active while watching their children play.
The 0.38-mile trail connects to the sidewalk system along Double Lakes and offers a drinking fountain, one bench, 10 exercise stations and a parking area, according to the city's trails page. Once the project is complete, the park will swap that aging equipment for modern machines and add a dedicated children's play area for the first time.
Funding comes from Park Zone 8 funds and a Texas Recreation and Parks Society State Initiative, per agenda documents.
No construction timeline has been announced. Community Impact reported that city officials did not respond to its request for a timeline.
The Oct. 5 vote tally and any council discussion have not been confirmed because meeting minutes have not yet been posted. Mayor Robin J. Elackatt presides over the seven-member council. Residents can check for minutes and future agendas on the city's public records portal.
The next regular council meeting is Monday, Oct. 19.
