Stafford Mayor Ken Mathew proclaimed October as Fire Prevention Month during the city council's Wednesday, Oct. 7 meeting.
The Stafford Fire Marshal's Office and Fire Department are publishing home fire safety tips each day during Fire Prevention Week, the city announced on its official social media accounts on Thursday, Oct. 8.
The proclamation coincides with the national observance. This year's National Fire Prevention Week theme is "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower," centered on lithium-ion battery charging hazards.
Fire safety has been on the council's radar beyond the proclamation. At the Sept. 16 meeting, Council Member Guerra requested a future discussion on the city's ordinance governing older buildings and possible fire-prevention adjustments, according to council minutes.
The Stafford Fire Department, led by Fire Chief Jose Magana, can be reached at (281) 208-6984. Residents can follow the daily tips on the city's accounts on X (@CityofStafford) and Instagram (@cityofstafford).
