Fort Bend ISD families who thought they missed the window for pre-kindergarten still have time. The district has spots available at multiple campuses even after classes began Tuesday, Aug. 11, according to Telemundo Houston, which reported Wednesday, Aug. 12 that openings remain for the 2026-27 school year. Free bilingual options are among the seats still up for grabs at eight Missouri City-area elementary schools.
No hard enrollment deadline has been set. Seats are first-come, first-served.
As we reported Aug. 6, the district was actively recruiting families before the school year opened. In an Aug. 6 post on X, Fort Bend ISD wrote in Spanish that it still had Pre-K4 openings and urged families to register their four-year-olds.
Why it matters
The district's own end-of-year data, shared June 23, showed 94% of Pre-K4 students were on track in math and 87% were on track in early literacy, both exceeding district goals and outperforming prior years. Fort Bend ISD said those results demonstrate the program prepares students for kindergarten.
For Missouri City families weighing whether to enroll after the start of school, the program offers a full-day option at no cost for qualifying students.
Where to enroll in Missouri City
Eight area campuses offer the bilingual Spanish Pre-K4 program, which uses a One-Way Dual Language model with 90% Spanish instruction and 10% English:
- Armstrong Elementary
- Barrington Place Elementary
- Colony Bend Elementary
- Goodman Elementary
- Heritage Rose Elementary
- Holley Elementary
- Mission Elementary
- Townewest Elementary
Fort Bend ISD operates 42 pre-K sites districtwide. Some campuses also offer tuition-based Pre-K4 for families who live in the district but don't meet state eligibility requirements for the free program.
Who qualifies
To enroll in free Pre-K4, a child must turn four on or before Sept. 1, 2026, live within Fort Bend ISD boundaries and meet at least one state eligibility requirement, such as income level or limited English proficiency.
How to apply
Families can find eligibility details, participating schools and start the enrollment process at fortbendisd.gov/departments/early-childhood. With no announced cutoff date, the district is encouraging families to contact their preferred campus directly before seats fill.
