Missouri City police officers, firefighters and elected officials will fan out across neighborhoods Tuesday, Oct. 6, for the city's annual National Night Out celebration.
The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Missouri City Police and Fire Stations on Main Avenue, according to the city's event calendar. Residents who registered block parties in their subdivisions will also host gatherings across town the same evening.
Texas holds National Night Out on the first Tuesday in October, while most of the country marks it in August.
The annual campaign promotes police-community partnerships. In Missouri City, the evening pairs residents with the officers and firefighters who patrol their streets. Elected officials also take part.
The city said on its block party registration page that it wants to encourage residents to get to know one another and work with first responders to help keep streets safe. Each registered block party host receives a National Night Out t-shirt, cap and yard sign, while supplies last.
Block party registration closed Sunday, Oct. 4. The City of Missouri City announced the deadline on its Facebook page that day, urging residents to sign up before the cutoff.
The Missouri City Police Department also promoted the event in a video on its Facebook page, inviting residents to come out for an evening with the department.
Residents who missed the block party deadline can still attend the main gathering at the Missouri City Police and Fire Stations, 4201 Main Ave., on Tuesday evening.
