Fort Bend Austin beat Ridge Point 3-1 in District 21-6A volleyball Tuesday, Sept. 8, handing the Panthers a home loss in Missouri City.

The win pushed Austin to 21-8 overall and 2-0 in district play, good for first place in the 21-6A standings, according to MaxPreps. Ridge Point hosted the match at its gym but could not slow a Bulldogs squad that entered the night riding a six-game winning streak.

That streak included a 3-0 sweep of Foster, a 2-0 win over Westfield, a 2-1 victory against Hargrave, a 2-0 win over North Shore and a 2-1 result against Cypress Falls. Austin opened district play Sept. 4 with a 3-1 win over Fort Bend Travis before taking down Ridge Point in the same fashion.

Fort Bend ISD Athletics billed the contest as a big matchup in a post on X before the first serve. Austin backed up the billing.

The Bulldogs entered the match at 20-8 overall and 1-0 in district. VYPE Houston slotted Austin at No. 19 in its 6A rankings published Sept. 8, while Ridge Point appeared in the "Others to Watch" category outside the top 20.

The Panthers have talent on the roster. Ridge Point's Jayden Robinson and Madelyn Johnson were named to the Houston Chronicle's 2025-26 list of 100 athletes who defined Houston high school sports. Both played volleyball for the Panthers last season.

Still, the Sept. 8 loss puts Ridge Point in early catch-up mode in the district race. Austin sits alone atop the standings at 2-0, and the Bulldogs have dropped just two sets across those two district wins.

Austin's next district match is Friday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. against Fort Bend Elkins.
