Missouri City residents will gather Thursday, Sept. 10, for the second annual Suicide Prevention Prayer Vigil at City Hall, a community event timed to World Suicide Prevention Day.

The vigil begins at 6 p.m. on the Missouri City Hall Outdoor Plaza, 1522 Texas Parkway. Fort Bend Transformation Church and the City of Missouri City are co-hosting the event, which the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office described as an evening of hope, healing, awareness and community.

Pastor David L. Sincere Jr. of Fort Bend Transformation Church is leading the effort. The Sheriff's Office said Sheriff Eric Fagan and Dr. Connie Almeida, director of behavioral health services, will join community leaders at the vigil.

NAMI Greater Houston, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is also participating.

State Rep. Suleman Lalani posted about the vigil on Tuesday, Sept. 8, writing, "Please join us in remembering and honoring the lives lost."

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

The city promoted the event on its official X account on Tuesday, Sept. 8, describing the gathering as an opportunity to raise awareness and remind residents that support is available. The vigil is free and open to the public.
