Fort Bend County Municipal Utility District No. 162 placed roughly 1,900 homes under outdoor watering restrictions after a mechanical failure in the district's main well.
The district, which serves the Sunrise Meadow, Highland Meadows, Still Creek Ranch and Windstone neighborhoods, posted the notice on Sunday, Aug. 30. Maintenance crews are working on the repair. No timeline has been set.
Under the restrictions, sprinkler use is limited to two days per week based on street address:
- Even-numbered addresses (ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8): Sundays and Thursdays only.
- Odd-numbered addresses (ending in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9): Saturdays and Wednesdays only.
On assigned days, automatic sprinklers and hose-end sprinklers may run only between midnight and 10 a.m. or between 8 p.m. and midnight. Sprinkler use outside those windows or on unassigned days is prohibited.
Hand-held hoses, faucet-filled buckets or watering cans of five gallons or less, and drip irrigation systems are exempt from the schedule and may be used at any time.
The district also asked residents to stop water from running off into streets or gutters and to delay non-essential uses such as washing vehicles or filling pools.
The notice did not name a spokesperson or specify whether violations carry fines. The district said updates would be posted at fbmud162.com.
The MUD 162 Board of Directors is scheduled to meet Thursday, Sept. 3, at 5 p.m. at 6420 Reading Road in Rosenberg. An agenda for the meeting has not yet been posted.
