More than 130 cats, kittens, dogs and puppies across Fort Bend, Harris and Galveston counties need permanent homes. SAVE Rescue Coalition, a volunteer-run rescue with no physical shelter, is asking Missouri City residents to step up.

The organization relies entirely on foster families to house animals pulled from the streets. Until more of its current fosters are adopted, SAVE Rescue Coalition cannot take in additional animals, Houston Style Magazine reported Monday, Sept. 7.

PetSmart in Missouri City shares its cattery space with the rescue, giving cats and kittens a place to meet potential adopters. Adoption events are held there every Saturday.

Fostering costs nothing out of pocket. Commitments can be as short as a weekend, though longer stints are available for puppies or kittens.

High school students looking for service hours can help at the cattery, assist during Saturday adoption events or support the organization's social media outreach. Volunteers can apply at saverescue.org/volunteer.

Available animals can be viewed at saverescue.org.
