Ridge Point beat Fort Bend Austin 41-6 on Friday, Oct. 2, pushing the Panthers to 6-0 and keeping them atop the district standings.
Across town at Mercer Stadium, Elkins came up one point short. Fort Bend Travis edged the Knights 17-16 in a district game that dropped Elkins to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in district play.
The two Missouri City programs meet each other next.
Ridge Point keeps rolling
The Panthers' 35-point win over Austin was their third consecutive district victory and their sixth straight to open the season. Ridge Point sits first in district at 3-0 and has outscored opponents 232-83 through six games, according to MaxPreps.
The lopsided margin continued a pattern. Ridge Point beat Fort Bend Clements 40-3 in Week 5 and opened district play with a 38-6 win over Strake Jesuit on Sept. 17.
A lingering question surrounds the quarterback position. Senior Brody Bartee, who threw for 2,098 yards and 26 touchdowns in the 2025 season, missed the Week 5 game against Clements. Backup Landon Rodkey stepped in and threw two touchdown passes in that 40-3 win, according to SI.com's state rankings. Whether Bartee returned for the Austin game has not been confirmed.
Head coach Rick LaFavers praised Bartee's leadership in a Sept. 16 interview with the Defender Network. "He's a tremendous leader, someone who is proven," LaFavers said. "When you have someone like that, particularly at the quarterback position, it gives everyone a strong belief that we are always in it and never out of the fight."
Ridge Point entered Week 6 ranked No. 7 in the Class 6A state poll by Dave Campbell's Texas Football and No. 13 in SI.com's Texas Top 25. The Panthers have not lost a district game since Oct. 17, 2019.
Elkins stung by one-point loss
The Knights lost to Travis 17-16, their second defeat by three points or fewer this season. Elkins had won its previous outing, beating Fort Bend Bush 24-6 on Sept. 25 to pick up its first district victory. The loss dropped the Knights to fourth in district at 1-2.
Through six games Elkins has scored 147 points and allowed 156, per MaxPreps. The Knights fell 38-35 at Mayde Creek on Aug. 28 and 42-35 at Clear Falls on Sept. 10 in non-district play. A 40-0 district loss to Fort Bend Hightower on Sept. 17 preceded the win over Bush.
No individual statistics or details on the deciding score in the Travis game were available at publication.
Week 7: Panthers visit Knights
Ridge Point and Elkins meet Saturday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m. at Elkins in a district matchup. For the Panthers, it is a chance to extend their unbeaten run. For the Knights, it is a test against the district's top team as they try to climb back toward playoff contention at 1-2 in district play.
