Stafford residents on a dozen neighborhood streets should expect fresh oil, uneven pavement and construction equipment starting Monday, Oct. 5, as the city launches its 2026 Stafford Street Repair Project.

The City of Stafford said on X that its Public Works Department and Fort Bend County will conduct repairs on 12 streets through Saturday, Oct. 31. The streets are AKJ St., 6th St., Flaxseed Way, Oldcrest Dr., Center St., Linda St., Rose Ann St., Oak St., Frank Ln., Perez St., Buena Vista St. and Deborah St.

The city cited safety for residents, contractors and workers in asking people along those routes to clear all vehicles, trailers and personal property from the city right-of-way before crews arrive. Drivers passing through work zones should use caution and allow extra travel time, the city said.

The announcement did not include a street-by-street schedule or detour information.

Council voted 7-0 in June for contractor

Stafford City Council voted 7-0 on Wednesday, June 17, to award the project contract to SAS Concrete Construction, LLC, under Resolution No. 28-26, according to council meeting minutes. Council Member Herrera made the motion, and Council Member Chen seconded it. Mayor Mathew, Mayor Pro Tem Wood and Council Members Bostic, Rosas and Guerra also voted in favor.

Public Works Assistant Superintendent Laura Morales presented the engineer's recommendation for SAS Concrete Construction at that meeting. Bob Jones of Jones Engineering Solutions serves as the city engineer on the project. Chris Riggs leads the city's Public Works and Development Services Department.

Stafford runs an annual street repair program. The council discussed expanding the 2025 version at its Jan. 7 meeting, and the 2026 project now covers 12 streets across the city.

What residents need to know

The city warned that temporary road conditions during the four-week project could include bumps, fresh oil and heavy equipment in the roadway. No information on which streets will be repaired first was included in the Oct. 1 announcement.

Work is scheduled to wrap up Oct. 31. Residents with questions can contact Morales at 281-208-6920.
