Stafford's economic development board will consider whether to bring public transit service to the city when it meets Tuesday, Sept. 22.

The Stafford Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) board of directors will hear a presentation from Wilmington Regional Transit at its 6:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall, 2610 South Main St. The board could take action on the item, according to the meeting agenda.

Wilmington Regional Transit describes itself as a fixed-route service connecting activity centers in Fort Bend County to Metro Houston. The company lists Stafford as part of its service area. Details of what the company will propose to the board were not available ahead of the meeting.

The agenda also includes a report from Bryan Blaum, president of FMsquared, on event schedules, marketing plans and operations at The Stafford Centre.

$25.6 million in the bank

The board will review the SEDC's July 2026 financial report, which shows a combined fund balance of $25,639,922. That is up $3.1 million from $22,513,212 in the prior fiscal year.

The balance breaks down as $16.9 million in the Capital Project Fund, $6.4 million in the General Fund and $2.4 million in the Debt Service Fund. A separate Hotel Occupancy Tax fund holds $8.5 million.

The growth in the capital fund reflects a $9 million transfer the board approved for two major projects: the Commercial Street Repair Project and the Parks Project. Of the $16.4 million budgeted for capital projects, only $737,463 has been spent so far. The street repair project has a $7 million budget with $85,182 spent. The parks project has a $2 million budget with nothing spent yet.

Sales tax revenue, the SEDC's main income source, totaled $5.4 million through July, a 3.28% decrease from the same period last year. Interest income partially offset that dip, with $698,604 collected year to date. The SEDC's $25.35 million investment portfolio carried a weighted average yield of 3.84% as of July 31.

Total operating revenue reached $7.7 million through July. That figure includes a $1.7 million reimbursement from Fort Bend County for the Pike Road project and $49,000 from the Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund for a Stafford Centre expansion study.

SEDC board president Randy Krahn will preside over the meeting. The board includes Vice President Damon Leonetti, Secretary William Bostic Jr., Treasurer Gwen Goodwin and members Ken Mathew, AJ Honore and Alice Chen.

The meeting is open to the public.
